CLAVETTE, ZITA (KIRBY) - Mrs. Zita (Kirby) Clavette, wife of the late Henri P. Clavette, passed away in Edmundston October 15, 2003. Born January 25, 1913 in Chatham, NB, she graduated from St. Michael's Academy in 1930. The following year she won the Governor General's medal as well as the Lieutenant Governor's silver medal for achieving the highest standing in the Class "A" exams at the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton. After a thirteen-year career in teaching, she married Henri P. Clavette in 1944 and settled in Edmundston. Mrs. Clavette was an active member of the Catholic Women's League for over thirty years. She developed her mastery of French over the years, and in her sixties decided to add Spanish during her many stays in Florida with her husband. Mrs. Clavette shared with him a great love of gardening and of bridge. They were totally devoted to each other during their 56 years of marriage. Mrs. Clavette was predeceased by her parents Dennis and Elizabeth Kirby, as well as her sister Mary Pieta of the Maryknoll Sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing her brother John (Irene) Kirby of Moncton, her three children: Paul (Gaétane Deschamps) Clavette of Edmundston, Laura (John) Shannon of Drumheller, AB, and Anne (Greg) Clavette King of Calgary, AB, as well as five grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah and Emily Shannon, Patrick and Teresa King. The funeral will be at 2 PM Friday October 17, 2003 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Edmundston, NB. She will be resting at J.B. Côté & Fils Ltée, 160 Church Street, Edmundston from 7 to 9 Thursday evening; and, from noon till 2PM Friday, day of the funeral. Funeral direction by J.B.
