Colonel (ret) MBE, O St-J, CD Royal 22 Regiment Passed away on January 19th, 2003, at the age of 87. He is survived by his beloved wife Helene (Bournival) Letellier after 62 years of marriage, his three sons Michel (France Lacoursiere), Marc, Yves (Lucie Gratton) and his twin daughters Danielle (Frank Genesee) and Therese (Francois Reid) together with 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandson, Alain. He will be deeply missed by his sisters Marguerite Letellier and Lucienne Byrne and his brother Roger Letellier (Irene Boivin) and also his sisters-in-law Carmen Lajoie Letellier (Jean-Marc) and Mary Fowler Letellier (Pierre). Colonel Letellier was born in Ottawa on July 20th, 1915 and obtained, in 1934, his Commission as an Officer with the Regiment de Hull. In 1939 he enlisted in the regular Army and was sent to England in 1942 to be part of the 4th Armoured Division. At the end of the War, he was stationed with the 1st Canadian Army Headquarters in Germany and returned to Canada in 1946. Posted in Ottawa, he held different positions at Canadian Army Headquarters, most notably as resident officer at the University of Ottawa from 1946 to 1948. He became Commanding Officer of the 3rd battalion of the Royal 22 Regiment from 1957 to 1960. Thereafter he was posted in Vietnam as part of the International Control Commission. In 1962, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel and became director of studies at the Army Staff College in Kingston, Ontario. He retired from the Canadian Forces in March 1969 and became Director General of Bilingualism and Biculturalism for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces until his final retirement in 1977. Relatives and friends will be received at Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St. Joseph Blvd., Orleans, on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 2757 St. Joseph Blvd., Orleans, on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 11 a.m. The family extends its most heartfelt thanks to the personnel of le Centre Elisabeth Bruyere of Ottawa, palliative care unit, for the exceptional care given to Colonel Letellier.
