Q.C. 1915-2003 Died peacefully on December 20, 2003 in Ottawa, at age 88. Beloved husband of Shirley; loving father to Jon (Colleen), Chick, Nancy and Heather; doting grandfather of Lanie, Sarah and Kalen. Born in Ottawa, Don attended York Street and Crichton Street Public Schools and Lisgar Collegiate, excelling in academics, athletics and writing. He joined the RCAF in 1940 and had a distinguished flying career as a pilot instructor and as a reconnaissance pilot flying Spitfires over Europe. After the war, he attended Osgoode Hall graduating in the top of his class. He then had over 30 years as a highly regarded barrister and solicitor in Ottawa, principally as senior partner in Snipper, Cohen & Murray. Also, for many years he was an avid cricketer and captained the Ottawa Cricket Club in interprovincial and international matches. In his retirement he pursued with his usual wisdom, wit and vigor to his major passions: first, as patriarch of his extended family (which included many devoted nieces and nephews and their families in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver); as a fisherman of the wily small mouthed bass in his beloved Gatineau Hills; and an avid reader of every imaginable subject and a writer of letters on various matters to this newspaper. He will be sorely missed by all who have known him. A memorial and reception will be held in his honour on Tuesday, December 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset St. West (parking at the rear of the building).
