PHILIP McCOY Philip John McCoy, 45, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly Saturday, April 12, 2003 at his home. Philip was born in Cheyene, Wyoming on June 9, 1957, but moved to Fort Frances at an early age and then to Miscampbell. He spent his childhood summers working at his Uncle Brian’s farm in Box Alder, and also learned his cooking skills at this time from his grandmother. He graduated from Fort Frances High School and then went on to the University of Guelph, where he completed two years in the science field. After working summers at the local paper mill, he took a full-time job with Boise Cascade as a papermaker, where he served for almost 25 years. Phil had many hobbies, and his garden was enjoyed by many people—along with the canning that went with it. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time at the family cabin on Lake Despair. His many woodworking projects can be found throughout the district. He was united in marriage June 16, 1979 to Dianne Herman, who survives along with their children, Joel Philip and Christina Dawnelle. Phil thought the world of his children and was very proud of their accomplishments. Also surviving are his parents, John and Henrietta of Miscampbell; brothers, Jerry of Winnipeg, Man., and Michael and wife, Beverly, and their children, Brian and Brendan, of La Vallee, Ont.; and sisters, Sheri and husband, Dale Stamarski, and their children, Rodney, Danielle, Bobbi Jo, Jeremy, and Jonathan, of Burriss, Ont., and Patricia and husband, Lawrence Larson, of Miscampbell, Ont. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Betty Herman of Fort Frances, Ont.; brothers-in-law, Bradley, wife, Susan and son, Tyler, of Emo, Ont., and Gregory and wife, Mary, of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Robert and Donalda McCoy, and Ann and Arthur Peterson; and father-in-law, Ray Herman. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Devlin Hall in Devlin, Ont., with Delbert Barker officiating. Interment took place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
