OLIVE MYRTLE DENT Olive Myrtle Dent, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances in her 90th year. She was born May 1, 1914 in Kliskowski, Sask. to the late Alfred and Ethel Hall. While a child, Olive, with her father and siblings, became one of the pioneers in the Rainy River District when her father secured a homestead in Mather Township. She married and moved to the United States, where she lived before returning to Rainy River District in October, 1944. She resided in the Emo, Ont. area until 1958, when she moved to Fort Frances, where she had lived since. In 1963, she graduated as an RNA, subsequently nursing at La Verendyre Hospital and later at Rainycrest Home for the Aged. After retiring, she worked at the Green Funeral Home from 1973-1989. She loved knitting, crocheting, and playing TV Bingo. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Olive is survived by her children, daughter, Ethel (George) Morris of Lindsay, Ont., step-daughter, Kathleen Dent of Kenora, Ont., son, Gordon “Bud” (Dorleen) Dyrland of Fort Frances, Ont., daughter, Joyce Ann Marsh of Gainsville, Fla., son, Tom (Evelyn) Dyrland of Kamloops, B.C., Prentice (Ann) Dent of Calgary, Alta., Brian (Carole) Dent of Fort Frances, Ont., and Bradley Dent of Guelph, Ont. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Hunter of Olds, Alta.; and many nieces and nephews. Olive was predeceased by her first husband, Lewis Dyrland; her second husband, Vivian Jonathan “Sonny” Dent; three brothers, Bill, Jim, and Jack Hall; and one sister, Cecelia Boucha. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Marietta Marshall officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery. Friends visited with the family on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Green Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Mark Dyrland, Chris Dent, Paul Dyrland, Dave Halvorsen, Murray Alexander, and Brad Carlson.
