SOLTENDIECK, Hermann Friedemann (P. Eng.) It is with sadness and peace of heart that we announce the passing of Hermann Friedemann Soltendieck on Saturday, August 6th, 2005, after a lengthy, courageous and determined struggle with Parkinson's, always maintaining his dignity and hope. Hermann will be greatly missed by his family, Norma (nee Medina), his wife of 44 years, children, Heidi Carota (husband Lawrence, Donald Chow (predeceased), Tara Watson (husband Len), Anthony (partner Nancy-Lee), James (wife Joanne) and grandchildren Colton, Brenden, Avery, Brandon, Brianne, Alexis, Logan and Ryan. He will also be sadly missed by numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives both in Sudbury and abroad. Born in New York City to the late Franz and Hilda (nee Feucht) Soltendieck on February 4th, 1934, Hermann attended private boarding schools in Europe before returning to Montreal in 1952 where he completed his Canadian high school education at Sir George William High School. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Science degree at Loyola College (1958), finally graduating from McGill University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mine Engineering. In 1960 he began his career with Inco, retiring in 1991. Hermann was a patient and giving man who loved life. He was an ardent supporter of the arts and literature and numerous charities. Strong in his faith, he contributed endless hours of support to the former Lord of The World Parish. He loved his books and his stamps, a good bottle of wine and in retirement, he took up the challenge of golf. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in Holy Redeemer Church, 1887 Bancroft Dr., Sudbury, Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 at 10 a.m. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
