Funeral services for lifelong Hearst resident Clairette Roseline Vaillancourt, 63, of the 13th St. Belle-Rivière apartments were held Jan. 31, 2004. She died Jan. 27 at Notre-Dame Hospital from heart disease. Born Feb. 24, 1940 in Hearst, she worked as a Northern Telephone switchboard operator in her early 20s before enrolling at Timmins High and Vocational School in the mid-1960s to finish her high school. Returning to Hearst, she waitressed at the former Palace Grill, worked as a provincial driver's license bureau agent for 27 years, operated her Claire's Cash and Carry store at Sixth St. for 20 years, and sold Sara Coventry jewelry, Tupperware, magnetic signs and various brand home products. An avid collector of stamps and other items, she took up weightlifting at local gyms late in life. Her recipes column was a regular feature in the local Le Nord newspaper. Described by family as sincere, loving, warm, welcoming and having a sense of community. At Belle-Rivière, she helped raise funds for the two outdoors swings. Predeceased by her parents Jeanne (née Proulx) and Joseph Vaillancourt, brothers Gérard and Fernand, both of Hearst, and Raymond of Kapuskasing, she leaves daughters Cheryl (companion Daniel Marcotte) Innes of Timmins and Christina (Alan) Goodman of Hearst, and sons Richard of Montreal and Gérald (Manon) Vaillancourt of Hearst. Also surviving are her sisters Marielle (Adrien) St-Pierre of Florida, Fernande (Fernand) Grondin of Hull, Que., and Lise (Jean-Guy) Grenier of Kapuskasing, brothers Marcel (Johanne) of Montreal, Robert (Réjeanne) of Hearst, and Gilles (Jackie) Vaillancourt of Timmins, sisters-in-law Lucienne and Corinne, both of Hearst, and Rosette of Valleyfield, Que., and grand-daughters Cara, Courtney, Kelly and Fanny. Rev. Rémi Lessard directed the service at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral. Interment will be at Monsignor Grenier Cemetery.
