Bayne, James Forrest, Clydesdale - It is with deep sadness his family announce the passing of James Forrest Bayne on July 6th, 2006 one day before his 92nd birthday, and in the loving arms of his wife Evelyn. Jim was born on July 7th, 1914 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. At the age of twelve he migrated with his parents, John and Agnes Bayne, and thirteen brothers and sisters to North Grant, Antigonish County. One brother, Harry, was born in Canada, Jim worked his early years in mining in Ontario, as a woodsman in the forests of eastern Nova Scotia, and later at Arsenault's Monuments, North Grant. As a child he played with his brothers around Ravenscraig Castle, Kirkcaldy, and along the shores of the North Sea. That intimacy with nature continued in Nova Scotia, especially among the hills and valleys of the family's beloved homestead in North Grant. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Jim was well known by many as a wonderful story teller and he entertained and touched many with his beautiful voice, often singing songs his Mom had sung to him as a child. He never lost his Scottish brogue or this tremendous pride for his heritage. Jim shall be remembered for his devotion and love to Evelyn, his wife of 61 years and a day, his unfaltering commitment to his family, his quiet strength, dignity and grace, his warm laughter, his steadfastness, and his contentment for life. He was a longtime member of Saint James United Church, Antigonish. His loving wife, Evelyn, survives him; he also leaves behind their five children: Margie (Donnie) Grant, Clydesdale; Tom (Sue), Saint John, N.B.; Dorothy (Paul) Doiron, Clydesdale; Ronnie (Joan), Clydesdale and Kenny (Kathy), Clydesdale. Packa has twelve grandchildren: Bernie, Evelyn (Ron), Stacy, Mary (Bryston), Daniel, Catherine (Matt),Robert, Brittany, Chelsie, Cayla, Shawna and Chance as well as three great grandchildren: Caitlyn, Isaac and Makayla. He is also survived by two sisters: Ina Harrington, Great Village, N.S. and Ella (Albert) Ferster, Hamilton, Ont, a special niece, Nan Barker, Hamilton and many more nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes Bayne, sisters: Agnes (Haggart) and Bella (Pushie); brothers: Bill, John, Tom, Dave, Wallace, George, John, Alex and Harry. Visitation in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish Sunday, July 9th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral will be held on Monday at 3:30 pm in St. James United Church with Reverend Ken MacLeod presiding. Burial in St. James-St. Paul Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha's Hospital Foundation. Although tears may now fall, we shall remember you always, your stories, your joy, and your love. Your spirit carries on in your Highland hills, and you have made out hearts full. The Road to the Isles The far Cuillins are pullin' me away, As take I wi' my crummack to the road. The far Cuillins are puttin' love on me, As step I wi' the sunlight for my load. Sure by Tummel and Loch Rannoch and Lochaber I will go By heather tracks wi' heaven in their wiles. If it's thinkin' in your inner heart, the braggart's in my step, You've never smelled the tangle o' the Isles. Oh the far Cuillins are puttin' love on me, As step I wi' my crummack to the Isles. It's by Shiel water the track is to the west, By Aillort and by Morar to the sea. The cool cresses I am thinkin' of for pluck, And bracken for a wink on Mother's knee. The blues islands are pullin' me away, Their laughter puts the leap upon the lame; The blue islands from the Skerries to the Lews, Wi' heather honey taste upon each name. [The Telegraph-Journal]
