KORTE, Johan Eljas Kalervo April 8, 1924 - January 3, 2007 After making a valiant 3 month effort to recover from the effects of a traumatic ruptured aneurism, John passed gently into his own 'good night' on January 3rd. He is survived by his harem; beloved wife and partner of 52 years Adele (Vogel), daughters Johanne (Richard Gregory) of Vancouver, Nancie Lee, Lu (Susan King) and Karen all of Ottawa and Heidi (Robert McKee) of Toronto. Ever the proud grandfather, 'Grampuns' will be sorely missed by Ryan, Keli, Lian and Derek Gregory, Makena, Hayden and Lake Korte-Moore, Quincy and Jesse Korte-King and Kayla and Kieran McKee. Predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Helvi and Eino Rinta, father Paavo Korte and brother Matti Korte. Born in Finland and raised in Montreal, John developed a love for the Laurentians and the ski crowd that taught him early on how to "let 'em run"; a phrase he'd enthusiastically repeat many times to young and old in his ski-obsessed family. John spent 42 years working for Bell Canada forging a successful career that began on Baffin Island and ended with 5 fascinating years spent in Saudi Arabia, before retiring to Ottawa. He was one of those fortunate few who loved every minute of his working life and considered it enriched by the experiences and colleagues who coloured his journey. John was a man who read widely, entertained graciously and was humbly grateful for the gifts of friendship and family that meant so much to him. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you take the time to sit down with an old friend and share a story or two... remembering that the chances to do so pass us by all too soon. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Sunday, January, 7, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be sent to korte.nomad@gmail.com Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 1/5/2007 - 1/6/2007 Published in the Montreal Gazette on 1/6/2007
