Annitta Elizabeth PETERS

Annitta Elizabeth Nichols, 71, died at her home in Athens after an illness. She was born July 1, 1935 in Matheson, Ont. and lived her life in the Athens, Redan and Toledo areas. Her parents were James Peters and the former Lumina Herbert. She married Douglas Perkins in 1953 and moved to his farm in Redan, where they raised six children. Mr. Perkins died in 1981. In 1983 she married Garnet Cole, who died in 1986. She married Ivan Nichols in 1987 and moved to Toledo; he died in 2001. She moved that year to Athens. Mrs. Nichols was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church in Toledo, the Athens Senior Citizens Club and the United Church Women. She travelled all over, visiting both family and friends on both sides of the border. She also enjoyed playing cards, spending time in her garden, doing crafts and shopping with and for her many children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children - Douglas Perkins and wife Barb of North Augusta, Laurence Perkins and wife Susan of Redan, Reta Crawford and husband Frank of Athens, Terry Perkins and wife Angie of Redan, Ken Perkins and wife Teresa of Redan and Tanie Harrigan and husband Ken of Malone, N.Y., - and 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers Leo Peters and Ron Peters and wife Ruth, and sisters-in-law Eleanor Seabrooke and husband Victor and Roberta Peters. Also surviving are 12 stepchildren: Ruth McCallum and husband Robert of Kingston, Ann Batisse and husband Mario of Haileybury, Betty Daley and husband Mike of Athens, Arlene Hache and husband Dennis of Yellowknife, Evelyn Knapp and husband Terry of Athens, Kathy Leggett and husband Bruce of Crosby, Charles Nichols and wife Ann of Toledo, Dennis Nichols and wife Patti of Gananoque, Paula Banks and husband Jeff of Jasper, Barb Irish and husband Tom of Toledo and Michelle Jordan and husband Billy of Toledo; 19 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren. Friends called at Judson Funeral Home, Athens, on March 12. The funeral was held March 13 at St. Andrew's United Church, Toledo, with Rev. David Timpson officiating. The pallbearers were grandsons Michael Covill, Scott Perkins, Douglas Perkins Jr., Jason Perkins, Bob Perkins and Kyle McCallum.
