Harold Bryce WARREN

Bryce Warren, 77, a former school principal and retired production manager at Career Services, died at Brockville General Hospital's Charles Street site February 14 of complications resulting from a 25-year illness with multiple sclerosis. He was born Harold Bryce Warren on October 30, 1929 in Brockville to Harold Benjamin Warren and the former Florence Anna Dickey. He attended Mallorytown Continuation School, Albert College in Belleville, Toronto Normal School and Queen's University. On June 30, 1951 he married Elinore Moore in Glen Buell United Church. They raised three children and lived at RR 4, Lansdowne (Greenfield) for years before moving to Brockville. He built their first home and cottage on Charleston Lake and was happiest when building and fixing things there. He also enjoyed golf, skiing and travel. Mr. Warren had begun his teaching career in northern Ontario and after returning to this area taught in Rocksprings and then in two Brockville schools, Commonwealth and Victoria public schools. He became principal of Victoria school, then of Westminster Public School and retired as principal of Vanier Public School in 1983. He then began his second career, joining Career Services in Brockville, an organization that promotes employment opportunities and skills development for vulnerable adults in the area and advocates on their behalf. He retired as production manager after 12 years. Active in his community, he was a past master of Lyn Masonic Lodge and a past president and life member of the Brockville Lions Club. He served as Sunday school superintendant at Wall Street United Church. Professionally, he was an honorary life member of the Ontario Public School Teachers Federation and served as first vice-president. He served on the local and provincial levels of the Ontario Teachers Federation and as a member of its board of governors from 1975 to 1980 he travelled across the province and enjoyed meeting people and listening to teachers' concerns. He had a high energy level, said his wife Elinore, and kept active in spite of his illness until just a few years ago. His attitude regarding the illness was matter-of-fact: "You play the hand you've been dealt." He is survived by his wife Elinore Warren of Brockville, daughter Peggy Budd and husband Kevin of Toronto and two sons, Kevin Warren and partner Robin Adams of RR 2, Lyn, and Peter Warren and wife Cindy of Brockville, as well as five grandchildren, Adriana Wenk and Maude, Saul, Mae and Isaac Warren. Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, Brockville, on February 16 and the Brockville Lions Club held a memorial tribute in the evening. The celebration of his life took place in the Irvine Chapel February 17, with Rev. Roland Glendinning officiating. Cremation and burial took place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland.
