Nellie Dickey, 87 PRESCOTT -- Nellie Dickey, 87, died February 10 at Kingston General Hospital. She was born April 26, 1919 in Penetanguishe, Ont., to Charles Ross and the former Margaret Wright. She married Mervyn Dickey on June 9, 1941 in Penetanguishene. After moving to Prescott, she worked at various industries in town, retiring from Domtar in 1985. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Prescott, where she taught Sunday school for many years, served on the board of managers and was an active member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Presbyterian Women. A loyal and proud citizen of Prescott, she loved attending the Sunday night concerts by the river and celebrated each special event and happening in the town. She also worked with the Girl Guide organization as a Brownie leader. In later years she served the town as a member of the Prescott Cemetery Board. Mrs. Dickey had a deep appreciation of nature, which she shared with her grandchildren. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens. She is survived by three children, James Dickey of Hamilton, Wanda Fletcher and husband Jack of Scarborough, and Tom and wife Brenda of Toronto; sister Edna Allsopp of Saskatoon; six grandchildren, Alice Cade and husband Andy of Vancouver, Fivel Flavour and wife Lisa of Willowdale, Rachel Fishback and husband Tony of Guelph, Johnathan Fletcher and wife Karen of St. Catharines, Christian Fletcher of Scarborough and Benjamin Dickey of Toronto; and seven great-grandchildren, Lucy and George Cade, Emmanuel and Viva Flavour, Eric and Eve Fishback and Hudson Fletcher. She was predeceased by her husband Mervyn in 1991; a daughter, Connie, in 1973; sister Helen Crawley and brothers Earl and Robert Ross; and daughter-in-law Carol Dickey. Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, on February 15. The funeral was held February 16 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Prescott, with Rev. Dr. James Dickey of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, and Rev. Ian McLean of St. Andrew's, Prescott, officiating. A committal service will take place in the spring at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Prescott. The pallbearers were Jonathan Fletcher, Christian Fletcher, Thomas Dickey, Fivel Flavour, Jack Fletcher and Hugh Gallagher.
