Richard Bedford Williams On April 1, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, Richard Bedford Williams (Dick), died at the Sudbury Memorial Hospital, as a result of pulmonary and cardiac disease. He was born in Dack Township in May, 1934, the fourth son of Charles and Iva Williams. He attended school at Charlton Consolidated and Englehart High and lived in the Temiskaming area all his life. Mr. Williams married Elizabeth H. Palmateer in 1954 at St. Faith’s, Charlton and they had five children. He loved to have his children and grandchildren visit and took a great interest in teaching and playing with the children. Largely self-taught, Mr. Williams was a construction carpenter, also doing electrical and plumbing work. He was able to visualize mechanical and construction projects in three dimensions and then plan how to build whatever it was he designed. He also became a furnace installer, oil burner mechanic and serviceman and later, a municipal building officer, for which his earlier work had aptly prepared him. He retired in 2005. Mr. Williams had been a councillor and Reeve of Dack Township, a Director of the Board of the Englehart and Area Historical Museum and was always a helpful and involved member of the community. He had been Warden and long-time active member of Christ Church Anglican, Englehart. Mr. Williams was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Beth) in 1996, after 42 years of marriage; sisters Marie and Bessie; and his brother Ross. Mr. Williams is survived by his children Sandra Barnes (Terrence), Kathleen Williams, Darlene Pulchinski (Troy), Rhonda Williams-Parent (John) and Richard David Williams; grandchildren Charles (Lisa), Erin and Katherine Barnes; Matthew (Jessica), Andrea and Nathan Joiner; Hayden and Dana Pulchinski; Meaghan and Cameron Parent, and Christian and Jillian Williams; great-grandchild Kyle Joiner; siblings Clair (Jane), Carl (Mildred), Russel (Beulah), Millie (Carl) Cameron, Ripley (Marlene), Rae (Belle) and sister-in-law Louise; and many nieces and nephews — he was everyone’s favourite “Uncle Dick,” a name used with love by relatives and neighbours alike. In 2001 he married Jean Wallace, who survives him. By this marriage he gained two more daughters, Janet Wallace and Eleanor (Greg) James and two granddaughters, Alannah and Kate. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart, and conducted April 5 at Christ Church by The Reverend Richard White, Rector. Mr. Williams would have been touched and appreciative of the presence of the Englehart Ecumenical Choir (Gwen Middaugh, Director and Organist), especially because of his life-long love of music and singing, said his family. Pallbearers were grandsons Matthew Joiner, Nathan Joiner and Charles Barnes, nephews John Palmateer and Eugene Williams, and best friend Bill Laurila, Jr., Interment will be in Brentha Cemetery, beside his wife, Beth. Relatives and friends attended the service from Brampton, Courtice, Clarkson, Kitchener, Barrie, Orillia and Seattle, Washington. In memory donations have been made to Christ Church In Memoriam Fund and to Englehart and Area Historical Museum.
