PARKER, SHIRLEY MERLENE - Shirley Merlene, (79) of Grand Harbour Grand, Manan Island passed away after a lengthy illness Saturday, May 12th, 2007 at the Grand Manan Hospital. Born in Grand Harbour she was the daughter of the late Archie and Alva Green. Shirley brought her family up in Grand Harbour with her late husband, Donald. In her early years she worked as a sardine packer and boned smoked herring, later she took a position working on the Grand Manan Ferry for Coastal Transport as cook and worked along side of Donald for many years until their retirement in the early 1990's. Serving the Lord at The Central Wesleyan Church she was at one time the Secretary of the Sunday School and the Club House and spending time at Beulah Camp to share in fellowship and worship in the summer was always a pleasure for Shirley. She loved to knit and rarely let her sickness near the end get her spirits down. She is survived by her two daughters, Murice Guptill (David) and Doreen Sullivan (John) both of Grand Harbour; her two sisters, Lona Urquhart of North Head, and Doris Huckins of Grand Harbour; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and her friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald in 2004; two brothers, Merrill Dakin and Laurence Green; and one grandchild, Marty David. Visiting hours will be held from Ells Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place from Central Wesleyan Church Monday May 14th, 2007 at 1:30 PM with Rev.
