Reta Jean Furlong AMHERST, NS - The death of Reta Jean Furlong, age 90, widow of Ross Furlong, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Saturday, July 7, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Born in Shinimicas, NS, she was a daughter of the late Wilson and Edna (Johnson) Smith. A homemaker, she worked with her husband, Ross in the operation of R.W. Furlong Service Station, Amherst for 26 years. She enjoyed RVing, with family and friends. She is a member of Trinity-St. Stephens United Church, Amherst. Reta will be sadly missed by her two sons, Leon (Cathy), Moncton and Bill (Myrna), Amherst; seven grandchildren, Susan, Arnold, Nancy, Christopher, Donelda, Patrick and Michelle; 12 great grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley MacKay, Gertrude (Ken) Smith, Bernice and Audrey Nix; a brother, Ansel (Evelyn). She was predeceased by her husband, Ross in 2005; brothers, Raymond, Hilton and Leon; and sisters, Gwen, Flo and Leona. The remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, with visitation Tuesday, from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the Furlong Jones Chapel, 64 Church Street, Amherst on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 1:30 pm, Rev. Patti Blundell officiating.
