John J. HUDAK

HUDAK, JOHN J. - It is with great sadness and pain that the family of John J. Hudak announces his passing on June 10, 2007 in his 77th year after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Humberstone Township and resided in Port Colborne for most of his life. He moved to Welland shortly after his long time employment with Bell Canada (1956 to 1992) where he took up his retirement. He would often remind his children It's not like working if you enjoy your job and that he did. John was a very supportive and devoted father to his children, Mary (Jim), John (Maria), Clara (Andy), Ernie (Verna) and Patrick (Amy) and son-in-law Stewart Sherk all of Port Colborne. John is also survived by his sister Rose Love of Guelph, his Aunt Julia Vasko of Port Colborne, many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews and several other family members. He will be sadly missed by his very special friend Helen Gamble and long time friends Ron Winger, George Bosak and Vic Eden. (Predeceased Johnny Dyet, Leopold Koeber (Putzie) and Frank Helmeczi). He was predeceased by his spouse Gail Hudak (nee Hoffman) in 2003 and both his parents Mary Hudak (1995) and Ernie Hudak (1962) as well as two infant sisters at birth. John enjoyed many years with friends, playing cards, fishing, boating, vacationing, dancing and socializing. It wasn't until after his retirement, John fined tuned his gift to gab where he touched many peoples lives. He was the very sincere and honest type. If in need he could always be found at the local library researching or reading, or at the coffee shop or anywhere in between talking up a storm with someone. He became somewhat of a fitness buff and enjoyed his long walks, short jogs, bicycling, swimming, gardening and socializing to complete strangers in between. He always had a kind hand to lend to someone, somewhere, and we will always share fond memories of his ability to mend anything from a broken radio to a broken heart. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to all and everyone who assisted in his wish to die at home including Dr. Sandra Hartman, nurses Irene and Erin, and the PSW's. They all offered tremendous support and care during our time of need and helped make him as comfortable as possible. We would also like to thank all our friends, families and neighbours for being supportive during this emotional time. Respecting John's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Saturday, June 16, 2007 from 10-11 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Armstrong Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Father David Spengler officiating. Interment of Ashes will take place at a later time. If so desired memorial donations may be made in John's memory to the Para-Med Health Care or any charity of your choice.
