MASSWOHL, Rudolf (Rudi) - Passed away peacefully June 18, 2007 in Welland after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Claire Masswohl (Ward). His son George (Sharron) Toronto, son John (Susan) Ottawa; daughter Elizabeth, St. Catharines: stepdaughter Kim Saxton (Kyle) - St. Catharines. Much loved grandchildren James, Eric, Vivian, Andrew and Ryan. Rudi was employed with the Federal Government for 37 years and managed the Human Resources Development Canada/Manpower offices in Welland and St. Catharines. After his retirement he was asked to take a position with the Employment Help Center and remained as the Executive Director for 14 years. He built the organization from very humble beginnings in St. Catharines, and went on to add satellitc offices in Welland, Beamsville and Grimsby. He was also a member of the Board with Community Legal Clinic - St. Catharines: Welland Public Library Board; Past Chairman of the Multicultural Network of Niagara Falls; Director of the Welland Heritage Council and belonged to the Ullysse's Society, St. Catharines as he was dedicated to life long learning. Rudi has been called a “Renaissance Man“. He was a highly recognized writer, artist, photographer and a self taught linguist, speaking 5 languages. Son-in-law of Yvette Ward; Brother-in Law of Claudette Richard (John), Carole Burch (Kenneth), Chester Ward (Lorraine), Gerald Ward (Marilyn), Ronald Ward (Wendy), Barry Ward, John Ward, Jeffrey Ward (Wendy), David, Ward. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by many good friends. Life long friend Sep Swoboda - Graz, Austria; Cousin Alexander Schultheis, Santiago, Chile, both traveled to be by his side in this last week. Pre-deceased by Sister Karin, Mother: Agathe (Zotter), Father: Wilhelm in Graz, Austria. Per Rudi's request, Cremation has taken place with a memorial service being held at Holy Trinity Church, 77 Division Street, Welland, on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Welland Heritage Council Building Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society. 10707708
