GILBERT, Edith Marguerite October 11, 1923 - June 19, 2007 Peacefully in her sleep at Providence Manor on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in her 84th year, after a difficult struggle with cancer. Survived by her beloved sister Lillian Preston and her cousin Gary Kirby (Carol). Predeceased by her parents Benjamin Gilbert and Annie Hendy and by her brother-in-law Edward Preston. Edie, as she was known to her many friends and colleagues, was a life-long resident of Kingston and a valued employee of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, for her entire working career of 47 years. Music, quiet times with a good book and extensive travel occupied her leisure time as well as the company of her close friends. In accordance with Edith's wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home, Cataraqui Chapel (1900 John Counter Boulevard) on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 1 p.m., The Reverend Timothy Vickery officiating. Interment Cataraqui Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Kingston Humane Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
