JOHNSTON, G. Claire - Grace Claire Johnston, age 89, passed away peacefully at her residence, Roberta Place Nursing Home, Barrie, on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. She was born in Winnipeg, daughter of the late George and Myrtle Hicks and had lived in London until coming to Stratford in 1950. Claire had been a former employee of the Stratford Festival, a Past President of the Rotary Anns, and a member of the Perth Regiment Chapter IODE. She loved playing bridge, was an avid reader and enjoyed many happy summers at their “beloved“ Muskoka cottage. Beloved wife of Allan Frederick Johnston who predeceased her April 14, 1990. Loving mother of Patti Durst and her husband Donald, Barrie, Tom Johnston and his wife Sherry Yundt, Mississauga. Grandmother to her adoring grandchildren Peter Durst and wife Marnie, Emily Durst and husband Jim Hockley, Barrie. Great grandmother of Claire Hockley. Sister in law of Margaret Hicks, Florida, Walter Brandie, London. Besides her parents and her husband she was predeceased by a brother Ward Hicks and a sister Carrie Brandie. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 430 Huron St. Stratford on Monday, July 30, from 12 noon until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
