OBITUARY NORMA ANTONIA (ENGEL) SKLIVAS September 10, 1937 - July 26, 2007 Wife of George Sklivas for almost fifty years. Mother of David (Louise Hurteau), Howard (Julie Mills), Caroline and five grandchildren - Paulina Fauchon, Benjamin, Ryan and Jackie Sklivas and Michael Sklivas. Special grandmother of Alex and Kendra Hughes. Predeceased by her parents Tony and Paulina Engel. Norma completed her secondary education at the Montreal High School for Girls in 1954 and then graduated from the Jewish General Hospital for Nursing in 1957. She was the recipient of the Harriet Blocke Silver Medal for Bedside Nursing. She continued in her nursing career until 1968, leaving it to join her husband in the insurance industry. She established the agency of Groupe Sklivas Incorporated, retiring in 2000. While working in the insurance industry, Norma became involved in the Anglican Church of Canada, becoming a diocesan pastoral visitor and lay reader. She traveled the diocese extensively, preaching, giving workshops, etc. One of her proudest achievements was completing her Master's degree in theological studies at Concordia University in 2000. She was also able to study in the Holy Land at St.George's College in Jerusalem, receiving a diploma in Pilgrimage and Spirituality. Here at home, in 2002, Norma was appointed by Archibishop Andrew Hutcheson to be the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer Diocesan Representative for Montreal and the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada. Norma always enjoyed a healthy and active life. With George (and without) she traveled extensively. She was a member of the Twin Ski Club, the JB Ski Club, the West Island Sports Club and the Summerlea Golf and Country Club. In the year 2000, she returned to the Jewish General Hospital as a volunteer, working in the emergency room. A generous and loving wife, mother and friend, she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Many thanks to Dr. Jeremy Sturgeon and Nurse Cora of the Montreal General Hospital Oncology Dept., Doctor Sauve and nurse Monique Sasseville of the Vaudreuil-Dorion CLSC and all the doctors, nurses and volunteers of the West Island Palliative Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norma's name to the West Island Palliative Care Centre and/or to the Parish of St. Marks and St. Andrews, in Dorval. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Collins Clarke Macgillivray White Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20 (Exit 49 Cartier), 514-483-1870. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marks and St. Andrews, 865 Lakeshore, Dorval, 514-631-3601.
