OBITUARY MAURICE S. SHAMY 1917-2007 Died peacefully in his ninety-first year on July 29 at the Jewish General Hospital surrounded by his loving family and special friends. Beloved husband of 49 years to the late Madeline Joseph. Devoted and proud father to Barbara, Nicholas (Sanaa), April (Mark) and the late Carl. Special Grandpa to Grace, Eric, Ashley, Justin, Trevor and Great-Jiddo to Khalil. Dear brother and brother in-law of Lily and the late Louis Yared, the late Georgette and Antoine Francis, the late Alice and Nicholas. Special uncle to Guy and Andrew Francis, Penny (Tom), Peter and Linda (Mario) Yared. He will be greatly missed by his Toledo relatives and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Adopted Grandpa to his angel Ivy and her sister Ellen. Born in Montreal and raised in a family with strong Lebanese traditions, he was passionate about his family. He was an important leader in the Montreal Lebanese community and served for the LSCA, the WLCU, the Order of St-Ignatius and St-Nicholas Church for many years. Dad was proud to have built a successful wholesale clothing business. He lived his final battle the way he lived his entire life; with courage, determination and dignity. Dad touched many lives and will always be remembered for his generosity and compassion towards others. The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care provided to Grandpa by the nursing, medical and support staff of the Jewish General Hospital and particularly the outstanding people of the 7NW unit. Visitation at Urgel Bourgie, 1255 Beaumont Ave. TMR, on Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held at St-Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 80 de Castelneau E. on Thursday at 10 a.m. Donations in his memory can be made to St-Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church and the Jewish General Hospital.
