Helen Elizabeth MIDDLETON

AMOS, HELEN ELIZABETH (MIDDLETON), age 89, of Wyoming, formerly of Saint John, London and Sarnia, passed away at C.E.E. Hospital, Petrolia on Wednesday, August 1, 2007. Predeceased by husband, John Amos (1987). She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Ron Bell and son Paul Amos; sisters, Eileen Dibblee, Sarnia and Bernice Middleton, Grand Bay; sister-in-law of Luella Amos, Mary Schwartz, Mabel Schofield, Stanley Grabowski, Norman and Leona Amos. Predeceased by family members Don Dibblee, George Middleton, Owen Amos, Grant Amos, John Schofield, Jack and Gertrude Rosser, Gordon and Kathleen Rock, Joe and Martha Amos, Margaret Grabowski and Ernest and Jenny Amos. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Saint John, Helen Amos came to Ontario with her husband in 1949, but never lost her love of the sea. This is reflected in the many poems she has had published, as well as in her three books of poetry. She enjoyed writing and was a prolific correspondent. For over 65 years, she never missed having Christmas, Easter and Remembrance Day poems in the Saint John newspapers. One editor wrote that she was "an institution in her own time". She was a loving mother and a good listener and a loyal friend. Visitation on Thursday, August 2, 6 to 9 pm at the T. Stephenson & Son Funeral Home, Ailsa Craig where the funeral service will be held on Friday, August 3 at 1 pm with Rev. Kelvin Toffelmire officiating. Interment Mars Hill Cemetery, Brinsley. Memorial donations to C.E.E. Hospital Foundation, Blanche St., Petrolia N0N 1R0 or Wyoming United Church, Box 487 Wyoming, ON N0N 1T0 would be appreciated.
