MACADAM, Hugh Gerald - Gerald came to the end of his journey in his 85th year, on Thursday, August 2, 2007. He was born in Margaree Harbour, Nova Scotia and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia maintaining a strong connection with the University for the remainder of his life. Following graduation in 1942 he joined the Army and served overseas as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Artillery in North West Europe and was awarded the Croix de Guerre by the Government of France for his service in Normandy. Following his military service he graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1948 and was brought to Sault Ste. Marie by Sir James Dunn to establish a legal department at Algoma Steel Corporation. He retired in 1977. Gerald is remembered for his many activities of an eleemosynary nature in the area. Gerald was predeceased in 2002 by his loving wife of 52 years, Amelda. He is survived by his son Donald and grandchildren Sheena and Jordan. He is also survived by his brother Frank and predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Gerald was a kind, helpful and unselfish man who always showed concern for others. He has chosen cremation and to have his ashes spread on the ocean in Margaree Harbour where his life began. May he find peace as he passes back into the circle of life.
