Wencke Helene KIELLAND

OBITUARY WENCKE HELENE WARD (nee KIELLAND) October 18, 1925 - August 12,2007. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our mother, Helene Ward, on Sunday, August 12, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Bill, and she is survived by her brother Axel Kielland (Anne), her four sons, Bruce (Karin), Brian (Becky), Gary (Zail), and Glen (Andrea), and her seven grandchildren, Zina, Valerie, Katrina, Grady, Zoe, William, and Ian. Born in Stavanger, Norway in 1925 to parents Johan and Lissa Kielland, the family moved to Montreal when she was four years old. She lived in Montreal West until she completed her degree in physiotherapy at McGill University. After her marriage to Bill in 1949, she moved with him to Granby, where they lived for almost 50 years. During that time she raised four sons, and was the consummate school and sports mom. In addition to all her kid-related activities, she found time to volunteer for many organizations and institutions. She loved to ski, bicycle, canoe, and walk, and particularly loved her summers at Goose Rocks Beach in Maine. After Bill's passing in 1997, she moved to Montreal, where she lived until her death. She continued to walk every day, snow, rain or shine, and continued to knit countless hats, mittens, and scarves for charitable organizations. She was a person and a mother to be proud of... and we were. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at 3 p.m. at St Columba, 4020 Hingston Avenue in NDG.
