Gordon Mac HUFF

"Mac celebrating his 90th" HUFF, Gordon Mac February 20, 1917 - August 24, 2007 It is with sadness we announce the death of Gordon Mac Huff, a man who gave generously to his family, his friends and neighbours, and to his community. Born in Chatham, Ontario, over the years Mac lived in Kent Bridge, Hamilton, London, Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. Mac had a 'brilliant career' as a top salesman for Addressograph Multigraph where one of his major accomplishments was the development and sale of a machine to print postal money orders, which ended up in every postal outlet in Canada. And in his very active social life, Mac helped to found the first ski club in London, Ontario, he was an early member of the Ottawa Hunt Club, and a longstanding and faithful member of the Rideau Kiwanis. After his retirement Mac provided countless volunteer hours building custom adaptive equipment for the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre. His great passions for woodworking led him to join Ottawa's wood turners' community as well. Mac was predeceased by his beloved wife Angela (nee Neumann) and his brother Jim (Frances Burton). He is survived by his nieces Katheleen (Jake Banky), Margaret (Peter Huff-Rousselle) and Elizabeth (Jamie Sargent). 'Uncle Mac' spread bad jokes and good humour wherever he went and was a much-loved favourite of his grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He regularly terrorized the west coast on board his old pal Bob McCollum's boat and could claim full responsibility for establishing the tradition of the Sunday-morning Caesar among the Gulf Islands of British Columbia. Mac's commanding presence and his extraordinary sense of fun will be missed by his family and by his many friends and neighbours on Woodview Crescent, Blackburn Hamlet (Ottawa). The family wishes to express thanks to the employees of the Ottawa General Hospital, the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, and most of all at 'Amica at Bearbrook' - where so many have provided Mac with supportive and skilled care over the past few years. And finally the family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Hugh O'Gorman and to Ellen Philps. Donations in Mac's memory could be given to the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre Foundation (613-738-4335).
