HARRY MELVILLE MORRISON 1923-2007 With family by his side, Harry passed away on Friday, August 17, 2007 at King Place Retirement Residence at age 84. Beloved husband of the late Beulah Wilson and father of Joy, her husband Ron Stockburn, and Debbie and her husband Wayne Carrigan. Harry adored his five grandchildren and will be sadly missed by Matthew, Michael, Merideth, Jennifer, and Melanie. An exceptional hockey player in his youth, Harry's aspiration for a professional career was interrupted by his distinguished service in the Canadian Navy during World War 2. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, Harry celebrated his twenty-first birthday aboard the Mine Sweeper Malpeque in the English Channel leading the Allied liberation of Europe. Upon his return to civilian life, Harry became an Electrician by trade and was employed by the Canadian Steamship Lines. Later, he had a long and valued career at the Mental Health Centre, Penetanguishene until his retirement in 1988 as Head of the Maintenance Department. Known for his quick wit and generous nature, Harry was well liked by all who had the good fortune to meet him. Harry was an active and respected member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 80, in Midland, as well as a Mason, Caledonian Lodge 249. Visitation was held at the Nicholl's Funeral Home on August 20, 2007 followed by a private family service conducted by the Royal Canadian Legion on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Interment was at the Lakeview Cemetery, King Street, Midland. Special thanks are offered to the supportive and caring staff at King Place Residence.
