SMITH, Donald M. - After a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, our husband and father, Donald M. Smith, age 74, of Sarnia formerly of Petrolia, finally went with his family of angels to heaven. Loving husband of 51 years to Margaret Sheila (Houle) Smith. Much loved father of Joe Dynes (Marcia), Sharron Holmes (Clair), Susan Scott (Dave) and Beverly Miller (Brad). Cherished grandfather of Michele, Patti-Jo, Sheri-Lyn, B.C., Matthew, Stephanie and great-grandchildren Ashley, Gillian, D. J., Jenna, Owen and Nathan. Loving brother of Gerald Smith. Dear uncle of Rick and Scott. Special cousin to Errol and Dorothy Bantam and son Jeff. Also survived by several nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, father John Smith (1964) and mother Isadora (1987) of Petrolia and his sister Dorothy (1989). Don retired from Imperial Oil December 31, 1988 and wrote a book about his family involvement with the company, titled Oil, Imperial in the beginning, Preserving Canadian Heritage. His retirement ended over 220 years of loyal family company service, a record which may never be achieved by any other family working for Imperial Oil again. In respect to Don's wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life will be held from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the Sarnia Yacht Club, 1220 Fort St., Point Edward. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the London Regional Cancer Clinic, Asbestosis Research or the St. Joseph's Hospice Resource Centre Sarnia.
