MCINTYRE, Fran - It is with terrible sadness that the family of Fran McIntyre (nee Patterson) announces her passing at the age of 63. On September 2, 2007, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, Fran's on-going battle with cancer ended. Fran was an inspiring teacher who taught with strength, humility, and perseverance. Her strongest passion was reading, and she excelled at conveying it to her children, grandchildren and students. The young people who were fortunate enough to have been taught by Fran became better students, as she was able to tap into their inner strength, allowing them to be more enriched human beings. She approached every challenge with humour, an indomitable spirit, and a stockpile of multicoloured Post- it notes. Fran's greatest strength was her tenacity. Champion of the underdog, she never gave up on people, nor would she allows others to do so. She lived her faith, and lead by example. Fran traveled extensively and lived in many places. She began her life and teaching career in Lambton Shores, Ontario. She later taught in Chinle, Arizona, relocated to Calgary, and ultimately to Tucson, Arizona. Wherever she went, those who became part of her life were enriched by her generosity. Together we take comfort in the memory of Fran's unconditional love and deep devotion to family, friends, and students.Fran will forever be known as the “Mother“ to so many. She is survived by her loving husband Dougald, her children; Ian Lawson and Vida Barkauskas, Kevin and Deanna Lawson, Laurie McIntyre-Bell and Brent Bell, Leana McIntyre and Everett Moons, and Frankee McIntyre, grandchildren; Kira, Matthew, Hannah, Ava and Thea, and her siblings; John and Rose Patterson and Annetta Watson. Visitation will be held at GILPIN FUNERAL CHAPEL, Forest on Saturday, September 8, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Fran's life, at Knox Presbyterian Church, Thedford on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 2 p.m. Remember, as Fran always said, “the more you read the better you get!“ Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or literacy organization of your choice are gratefully acknowledged.
