Gordon O. MACHUM

MACHUM, Gordon O. - In loving memory of Gordon O. Machum, 85 years, who passed away Monday, September 10th, 2007, at Finlandia Koti. Lt. G.O. Machum served in the Canadian Military Intelligence Corps until the end of the European Conflict. He was transferred to Camp Ritchie, Maryland U.S.A. for Intelligence training for the war in the Pacific. He met and married Lt. Marian J. Everett at the U.S.A. Army Nursing Corps. The returned to Toronto where he attended the University of Toronto graduating as a Metalurgical Engineer. He began his engineering career with International Nickel in Copper Cliff in 1949 and retired as Senior Vice-President of the Smelting and Refining Operations in 1980. During his life in Sudbury, he continued his military involvement joining R.C.E.M.E. where he was promoted to Major and became the Commanding Officer of the 33rd Technical Sqaudron., Canadian Army, Sudbury. He contributed to the well being of Sudbury by serving on the Board of Directors of the SGH including 2 terms as a Chairman. He also served on the boards for Guaranteed Trust and Hunting University where he was also Chairman. He was instrumental in the creation of the University of Air (courses on television). Upon retirement, he was recruited by Cliff Fielding as a consultant of Fisher Harbour and was the 1st Harbour Master. Beloved husband of Marian (Everett) Machum predeceased 2006. Loving father Harry (wife Dorothy) of Little Current, Kendal Farwell (husband Dennis) of Owen Sound, Michael (wife Jennifer) of Manitoulin Island, Kenneth (wife Shelley) and Jean Blanchard (husband Mike) both of Sudbury and Howard (wife Anne-Marie) of Lively. Will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Chad (partner Connie), Tina, Derrick (wife Laura), Danny, Jessica (fiance Joe), Rebeccah, Savannah, Anthony, Nigel (wife Louise), Ashley, Melissa (husband Derek), Kristine (husband Micheal), Steven (wife Angie), April-Marie and Sara and great-grandchildren Destiny, Kyle, Logan, Katie, Samantha, William, James, Halie and Hayden. Dear brother of Elizabeth Simpson (husband John) of Little Current, Helen Beck (husband Robert deceased) and Gerry Machum (wife Marilyn) both of Calgary, James Machum (wife Jacqueline) of Little Current and Shirley Jarrett predeceased (husband Al of Toronto). Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury, Thursday, September 13th, 2007 at 11 a.m. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
