THOMPSON: Lureen Elma - With deep sadness, our family announces the passing of Lureen Thompson on Wednesday August 29, 2007 at the Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current, Manitoulin Island at the age of 81, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Lureen was the daughter of Jack and Jennie (Coultis) Cammidge. She was the beloved wife of Sanford Thompson (predeceased).The mother of Dixie (Nick), Dell (wife Gloria), Mike (wife Nancy), Blair (wife Marion), and son Jim. Grandmother of Valerie, Trevor, Bobby-Jo, Tanya, Micky, Curtis and Chad. Great grandmother of Bobby, Brett, Cassidy and Sydney. Lureen was a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home for only a short time, having previously being a resident of Elliot Lake for the past several years, leaving there many good friends. Lureen was an avid card player and enjoyed her euchre and cribbage games. She was an associate member of the Legion and volunteered many hours both for the Legion and for the Canadian Red Cross. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting Afghans for the Seniors Residences in Elliot Lake. Lureen was a loving mother who devoted her life in caring for her family and enjoyed many summers at her cottage on Lake Manitou. Special thanks are extended to those friends in Elliot Lake who assisted her over the past few months, along with a thank you to Dr. Matheson and the nursing staff of the Elliot Lake Hospital. A further thank you is extended to Dr. Robinson and the nursing staff of the Cancer Care Center in Sudbury, along with the nurses, Drs. Edwards and Jeffries at the Manitoulin Health Centre. At Lureen's request there will be no visitation and no funeral. A graveside service will be held at Hilly Grove Cemetery on Saturday September 1st, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Knox United Church in Manitowaning or the Canadian Cancer Society is appreciated.
