MCSWAIN, Hilda Bernice- At Port Colborne Hospital Saturday, September 1st, 2007, Hilda Bernice McSwain (nee Hayden) in her 82nd year. The Lord has called her to join her beloved husband Alexander (Sandy) McSwain (1995). Born and educated at St. Peter's Bay, PEI. She came to Toronto in 1951 and married Alexander McSwain. They then moved to Welland, Ontario in 1957. Left to mourn her passing is her dear friend Norma MacKinnon, dear cousin of Richard MacGregor and Marion, and Pearl Hayden all of PEI, and nephew Stirling Anderson and Linda of Shelburne, ON. Predeceased by one son David Hayden McSwain (1963), her parents Walter Hayden and Sophia Ching-Hayden. She will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends. She worked as an R.N.A. for 26 years at Sunset Haven Home For the Aged in Welland, taking an early retirement in 1983. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Welland since 1958 where she served in many capacities. In 1959, she joined the St. John Ambulance Corps as a nursing member and was promoted through the ranks to Area Staff Officer of Nursing for the Southern Area of Ontario, a rank she holds to this time. In 1975, she was invested as Officer Sister in the Order of St. John, sanctioned by Her Majesty, the Queen Sovereign, Head of the Order in England. She has continued to be an active charter member of the Welland Chapter Fellowship, St. John Ambulance. She was invested in Ottawa by the Right Honourable Jules Leger, Governor General and Priory of the Order in Canada. Friends will be received at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill, one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held in the Chapel on Thursday September 6, 2007 at 1:00pm with Pastor Rene Brochu officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Welland. If desired, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Welland, St. John Ambulance or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be forwarded through www.pedlarfuneralhome.ca A donation in memory of Mrs. McSwain is being made to the Welland Hospital Foundation through the Pedlar Funeral Home Lifetime Memories Program. 10812601
