McALPINE, Donald P. "Going Skiing", he explained to his nurse as he checked out of his room on Saturday, September 8th, 2007 after only 11 days at Lanark Lodge in Perth. "But Don", she said, "you are 91. You're too old to ski." "Ha!" he replied, and was gone. Having spent a wonderful last summer at the cottage being visited by many loving friends and relatives, he had decided it was time to move on. Don was predeceased by his two loving wives, Edna (nee McNeely) and Shirley Lashley (nee Montgomery) and by his son, Joseph (Mary). He was a man of generous heart, great spirit and many accomplishments. He will be greatly missed by his devoted sister, Cecelia "Tootsie" Hamilton, and his caring children, John (Mary Anne) and Faye (Andrew) Mitchell as he will be by Shirley's children, David (Cavelle Lane), Sheryn (Pierre) Sauve, Wayne (Gwen) and Karen (Tony) Gunn, and her 14 grandchildren. He treasured the experiences he shared with his grandchildren, Kari, Brock, Jennifer, Melanie, Craig, Dawn and Joseph and his 7 great-grandchildren. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth, on Thursday, September 13th, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 14th, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's United Church with a reception to follow. Interment will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church or a charity of your choice and would be greatly appreciated.
