OBITUARY REV. MSGR. ANDREW SINAL, S. Th. D., Ph. B. 1927 - 2007 Peacefully, on September 6, 2007, in his eightieth year, Msgr Andrew Sinal passed away at Cenacle St. Pierre in Trois Rivieres. Msgr. Sinal was born in Osikov, Slovakia, son of his predeceased parents, Stefan and Zuzana. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1951 and was appointed a Monsignor in 1978. He will be missed by his brothers in Slovakia, Stefan, Jan, Vincent, Filip, as well as by their wives, and by his sister Maria and her husband, and by many nieces and nephews, and many other family members. He will be greatly missed by his parishioners at The Ascension of Our Lord Slovak Parish (Eastern Rite) where he was Pastor from 1966 until his recent retirement. As well, he will be greatly missed by the whole Slovak Community in Montreal and indeed in Canada as a whole. Before coming to Canada, Msgr Sinal, having obtained his Doctoral Degree, spent nine years as a professor at the papal regional seminary SIENNA. As well as his Pastoral duties in Montreal, in 1973, Msgr Sinal was appointed by Pope Paul VI a member of the Papal Commission for the Renewal of the Eastern Rite Code. With a re-appointment by Pope John Paul II, Msgr Sinal's duties with the Papal Commission were extended to 1991. As Canada's representative on this Commission, Msgr Sinal was called upon to travel to the Vatican for meetings with representatives from other countries. A highlight of Msgr Sinal's illustrious career was concelebrating holy mass with Pope John Paul II in the Sistene Chapel at the ordination of Cardinal Jozef Tomko of Slovakia. Resting at Jasko Moshonas Ouimet Inc. funeral home, 693 Jean-Talon W. corner Champagneur, on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 from 2 to 9 p.m. (funeral prayer at 7 p.m.). Funeral Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 13 from the Ascension of Our Lord Slovak Church, thence to Cote des Neiges Cemetery for interment.
