Wilfred Charles SMITH

SMITH, Wilfred Charles Passed away August 24, 2007, in ICU of Hotel Dieu Hospital, with family by his side. Beloved husband of Ellie Smith (Eleanor Garant). Dearly loved father of Cathie, Russell (1980), Douglas, Peggy and Ron Laliberty, and Gregory, all of Windsor. Special Grampa to Michelle Laliberty, Kelly Anderson, and Carly Vair, and Great-grampa of Hunter Vair. Wilf had nine siblings, and is survived by Lorraine McCann, Eileen Girard, Marion Bondy, Judith Durfy, Barbara Rink, and John. Predeceased by Clifford, Frances St. Louis, and Kathleen Bondy. Wilf was a veteran of WW1, serving in the Tank Core. He was a retired Brakeman of New York Central and CNR Railways, retiring in 1973. After retirement he became "Mr. Fix-it" at the John 23rd Centre and Canterbury College. As a young man, he was an excellent baseball player and manager. He went on to enjoy curling, golfing, bowling, and enjoyed playing Duplicate Bridge and working on Crossword Puzzles. He was a member of Church of the Atonement, the Royal Canadian Legion Br#143 . He enjoyed all the things that make life beautiful. At Wilf's request, there will be no visitation and he will be laid to rest at Heavenly Rest Cemetery by his immediate family in a private service. Memorial donations made to the Knights of Columbus Council #8919 would be appreciated by the family.
