MACKEY Valerie Jean (nee Wilson) December 13, 1941 - September 9, 2007 With much sadness we announce the passing of Valerie Mackey on September 9th, 2007, at Victoria General Hospital. Valerie died peacefully following a heroic struggle with a fast and aggressive cancer. Donald, her devoted husband of 37 years was at her side constantly providing much comfort. Valerie was raised and attended school in Vancouver, then married Chuck, moved to Campbell River, Prince George and Coquitlam. She met and married Don and they lived in Delta prior to moving the family to Salt Spring Island in 1982. Don and Val moved to Victoria in 2000 and Qualicum Beach in 2002. Valerie loved to decorate and was a skilled craftsperson (sewing, upholstery, interior design Ç ) as well as a cheerful and efficient secretary and administrator and small business owner. At age 58 she graduated from UVic with a certificate in Business Administration. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed sailing, gardening, many hobbies, and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and nieces. She is deeply missed by her husband Donald, mother Margo (Ted), sister Suzanne (Robyn), sons: Dan (Val), Pat (Gina), Jake (aka Loren) and Chris, and grandsons: Scott, Brett and Devon, and nieces: Alexandra and Taylor. Val was predeceased by her father Jack Wilson. A memorial service will be held September 21st, 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel at Minoru Park, 6540 Gilbert Road, Richmond, BC, with reception following at 4680 Foxglove Crescent, Richmond, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Valerie's memory may be made to a life saving cause of the donor's choice. Published in the Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on 9/18/2007.
