ARMITAGE, Alfred Richardson It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father. Alfie was born in Victoria on Dec. 28 1928 and died on Aug. 20 2007. Predeceased in 1965 by his first wife Ruth (White) and in 2004 by his second wife Mary (Martyn). He is survived by brothers John (Shirley), Ernie (Sophie), sons Bruce (Lorna), Chris (Debbie), Rob (Sherry), grandchildren Jamie, Jillian, Crystal, Jamie, Jenn, Kyle, Donnie and Katelyn, nieces and nephews. Beginning an apprenticeship at Ramsay Machine Works in 1945, he got his Steam Ticket. The highlight of his career was on the Sudbury 1 Deepsea tugboat, finishing his career at HMCS Dockyard. He was a passionate gardener and an avid fisherman and hunter. Always ready with a joke or a prank, he was a great story teller. He will be missed by his many friends at his local and distant haunts. Alfie loved being in the presence of family and good friends. Always ready to lend a hand, he was busy on one project or another for one or more of his buddies or a friend of a friend. He was a truly unique individual and his skills as a machinist and his intelligence and presence will be profoundly missed. He will also be missed by all his fellow members of the Victoria Outdoorsmen Club. Special thanks for their excellent care and support goes to the staff on 7B at VGH especially Dr. Boyle and nurses Susan and Kym. A celebration of Alfie's life will be held at CPO Mess, CFB Esquimalt, 1575 Lyall St. on Wednesday, August 29th at 5:30 PM. 402159 Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist from 8/23/2007 - 8/25/2007.
