BATE, Angela Faith October 10, 1921 August 18, 2007 Angela Bate died peacefully on the morning of August 18, 2007. She was predeceased six days earlier by her loving husband of sixty years, H. K. (Pat) Bate. Angela is survived by her son, Ian; daughter, Deborah; daughter, Lexi; sister, Verna Smith (Austin); brother, Charles de Macedo (Iris); brother, Louis de Macedo (Christine); two grandchildren, Benjamin, and Eleanore Hilliard; sister-in-law, Barbara Bate; and son-in-law, David McElderry. Angela also leaves behind many nieces and nephews of whom she was especially fond. Angela was born in St. Joseph's Hospital in Victoria, B.C. in 1921. She was educated at St. Ann's Academy. Angela married her life-long partner and best friend, Pat Bate, on September 12, 1947. She worked as a homemaker in Victoria from 1947 to 1955, as Pat practiced law. In 1955, Angela and Pat moved with their family to California where they lived until returning to Victoria in 1979. Angela was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. Her home and family were the center of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also an active, lifelong gardener. Her garden was an expression of her creativity and a place of peace and solitude. Angela was gifted with a wicked and wonderful sense of humour. She especially loved her BBC comedies. She followed politics with great interest and was an avid reader. She created many lovely pieces of needlework and loved working with fabrics of all kinds. Angela was an intuitive, kind and graceful woman. We will all miss her greatly. No service by request. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the lives of Angela and her husband, Pat, will be held in Victoria near the date that would have been their sixtieth wedding anniversary. The date of the celebration will be announced later. 403007 Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist from 8/25/2007 - 8/26/2007.
