Mary GRADY

DORRAN, Mary (nee Grady) Born in Oldham, England December 30th, 1924, died in Saanichton September 2nd, 2007. Mum was predeceased by her beloved husband Edgar in 1972, by a precious daughter Maureen in 1965, by her only brother Desmond Grady in 1994, and by grandson Alec in 1999. Mum is survived by daughter Patricia Messenger (Stuart) and sons Stephen (Terri), Michael (Sally), Thomas (Tony) and Peter, and by 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also survived by dear friend and sister-in-law, Mavis Grady, numerous friends and relations in England. In 1952 Mum and Dad emigrated to B.C. from England with infant Stephen. The family lived in Bralorne and Prince George before settling in Brentwood Bay in 1961. Mum was a professional teacher with accreditation from St. Mary's College, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and the University of Victoria. Following the death of Dad, Mum taught in the Saanich School District for several years before retiring in 1988. She was an active member of the Saanich Peninsula Catholic Parish, the Catholic Women's Auxiliary (Assumption Church), the Central Saanich Lawn Bowling Club, Central Saanich Senior Citizen's Association, and an honorary member of the North & South Saanich Agricultural Society. The family would like to thank her very dear friend Gladys Otto, her Assumption Church family and members of the Lawn Bowling Club and Seniors' Center. Special thanks to Dr. Graham Davidson and the nursing staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their care of Mum. Funeral Mass presided by Fr. Rolf Hasenack will be celebrated at the Our Lady of Assumption Church, 7742 West Saanich Road on Saturday, September 8th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In keeping with Mum's wishes, she was cremated and will be interred with Dad at a family service after the Mass. A reception will be held after the Mass at the Central Saanich Senior Citizens Center, 1229 Clarke Road, Brentwood Bay.
