Norman Carlyle RUDD

RUDD, Norman Carlyle - In loving memory of Norman Carlyle Rudd, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday Aug. 2, 2007. He was 87 years young. Norm was born October 12, 1919 in Durham, England. He was a beloved husband to Lillian and they celebrated their 57th anniversary in February of this year. Loving Dad to Char Morin (Keith), Chrissie Parcey (Will Cameron) and Norm Rudd (Paula). Cherished Papa to Lindsay (John Toby), Mathew, Rylan, Hilary, Whitney, Courtney and Kellen. Treasured Great- grandfather to Alexis. Norm will be missed by his sister-in-law Jean Rudd, his nieces Gail Gibb and Ann Rudd-Robins, and his nephew George MacJanet. Predeceased by his brother Edward Rudd and sister Ivy MacJanet. His faithful dog, Stryker, will miss his company. In 1941, Norm joined the Army, and after much testing, was selected as one of only ten people across Canada to train at Ottawa's National Research Council on a highly secret RADAR set. SGT Rudd was subsequently assigned a mobile RADAR/gun unit which defended England's coast. After the war, Norm worked 30 years at the Hollinger Mine in various jobs from the gravel claims to the main office. He saw the emergence of mechanical and electronic computers and became one of the first programmers using wired plug-boards. When the mine closed, he completed his career as an office manager with CFCL-TV. Along the way, Norm divided his time between family, stamp and coin collecting, woodworking and bowling (scoring a 400 single and 1000 triple). He was a member of Legion Branch 88 of Timmins. His kindness and sense of humour will truly be missed and will forever stay in our hearts. Special heart felt thanks to Dr's Paquette, Houston and Raymond, and the caring nurses on the Medical floor, TDH. Remembrance donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
