FISCHER, Walter Karl 19382007 - To everything there is a season, a time to live and a time to die. On Sunday, August 19, 2007, Walter passed away in his 68th year after a very courageous battle with cancer. He faced his journey with strength, dignity and humour. Walter maintained his hope and infectious smile until his last days with us. He will be missed by his loving wife Joyce (nee Williams) of Timmins, treasured children Krista (husband Ralph) McDowell of Timmins and Paul (wife Elaine) Fischer of Fort Frances. Adored by his grandchildren Scott & Justin McDowell and Kathryn Fischer. Survived by his brother Guenther Fischer (wife Inge) of Carlsbad Springs. Sadly missed by his nephews Rudi (wife Wendy), Tony (wife Natalie) and Harold (wife Tracey) all of the Metcalfe area. Also left to mourn are his surrogate mother and loving friend Stella Wurm and his lifetime friend Rolf Roeger of Germany. In his younger years, Walter played soccer for the National German Team. His love of soccer was passed along to his grandchildren. He immigrated to Canada in 1959 and worked in various mines throughout Canada before settling in Timmins to raise his family. Walter worked for 24 years at Kidd Creek Mine where he retired as an Underground Construction Supervisor. Throughout his 12 years of retirement, he enjoyed driving Jaguars for Cold Weather Testing as well as being a driver for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He loved music, dancing, the outdoors, camping, fishing and especially deer hunting with his son in Fort Frances. Walter will be missed by all who knew him. We all have wonderful memories that will live in our hearts forever. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Miron-Wilson Chapel (Lay Preacher Nancy Hopcraft officiating). Cremation will follow. If desired, remembrance donations to the Trans-Canada Trail, The Parkinson Society or Timmins & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the MIRON- WILSON FUNERAL HOME, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins, Ontario (705) 264- 4444.
