MONK, John Lorne 1923-2007 - The family announces with great sorrow his death at the Timmins & District Hospital on Saturday, August 25th, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Loving father of Larry Lawrence Monk (wife Jenny Louise) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Frank James Monk (wife Joanne) of Coleville, Saskatchewan, Christine Smith (husband Charlie) of Timmins and Johnny Monk of Saskatchewan. Also survived by Irene Macks of Saskatchewan. Dearest grandfather of Shane Monk of Vancouver, Trevor Monk and Tara Monk both of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Kelly Monk of Alberta, Ryan Monk of Saskatchewan, Amber Monk of Oshawa, Jason Pasternak (wife Nadine) of Timmins, Shannon Pasternak of Sudbury and Todd Pasternak of Timmins. Great grandfather of Mark, Tyler, Shyla, Brian and Dawn. Brother of Edna Richardson, Hilda Ranger both of Timmins and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; Patrick and Winnifred Monk as well as by his sisters Grace Duncan, Mary Monk, Margaret Schultz, Patricia Anne Monk and his brother Jim Monk. John was born on March 21st, 1923 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At the age of 5 he moved here to Timmins where he has lived for most of his life. John worked at various trades such as being in the Navy, diamond drilling, working in forestry and mining which he retired from at Corey Miller's Mine when he was in his mid 60's. He had a passion for work and a caring heart to help those in need. John loved the outdoors, taking walks, picking blueberries and the atmosphere of fishing without actually bating his hook and catching a fish. Many of his family members will have fond memories of him collecting buckets full of coins. John had a good life which he enjoyed. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 in the CHAPEL of the MIRON- WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Fr. Pat Lafleur will be officiating. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, remembrance donations to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the South Porcupine Food Bank would be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 from 11:10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Service time) at the MIRON- WILSON FUNERAL HOME, 150 Balsam St., S., Timmins.
