HOUGHTON, Margaret (Peggy) R.N. BScN - Peggy passed away peacefully at the General Hospital on Friday June 29 with her friends at her side. She was born on Feb. 2, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario, the daughter of Fred and Thelma Tighe. In 1952 she became the beloved step-daughter of Ernest Houghton who raised her to adulthood. She is predeceased by step- sister Gladys Houghton Carter. She graduated from Wellesley Hospital, Toronto in 1963 with R.N. and in 1969 BScN at McGill University in Montreal. She worked as a nurse for forty years in Toronto. Orillia, ON, Vancouver, B.C., Flin Flon, Man., Pangertung on Baffin Island, Creighton, Sask., and finally as a public health nurse with the Algoma Health Unit. In post retirement she was a volunteer at the Art Galley of Algoma, Friends of the Library, Blood Donor Clinics, Barrier Busters, Community Christmas for Children, and was very active in Beta Sigma Phi. Memorial donations to the Art Gallery of Algoma and Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie would be welcomed. A short memorial service will be held on Tuesday July 17 at St. Luke's Cathedral at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Art Gallery at 11:30 a.m. Everyone who has fond memories of Peggy is welcome to attend.
