MACRAE, Donald Gordon “Don“ (WWII RN) - on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Kingston General Hospital after a short illness, aged 87. Beloved husband of Joan Macrae (nee Irwin) for 54 years. Much loved father of Andrew, Heather (Barry Elliott) and Christopher (Megan Willoughby). Loved grandfather of Chloe and Keiran Macrae, Leigh, Drew and Cara Elliott, and Emma and Hugh Macrae. Brother of the late John Montye “Bubs“, Morson Leith “Bill“ and Eleanor Abbott “Sis“. Son of Albert Montye and Eleanor Marjorie (Leith) Macrae. Born in Oakville, Ontario, Don served in the Royal Navy from 1940 to 1945, after which he began his career at Canadian Charts and Supplies, moving to Gananoque in 1967 when the company merged operations with Canadian Graphic Controls. He worked in senior management, becoming Vice President, Sales and Marketing, until his retirement in 1985. Don also served the Gananoque community in a number of roles, most notably as Chairman of the Waterfront Development Community and President of the Thousand Islands Foundation for the Performing Arts. Cremation. A celebration of his life will be held at the Thousand Islands Playhouse (Firehall Theatre), Gananoque on Sunday Sept. 30, 2007 at 2 PM. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (KGH) or the Thousand Islands Foundation for the Performing Arts.
