RUITER, Cornelis - Passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2007 in his 78th year. At his home surrounded by his wife, Alice Humphrey-Ruiter and family members. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Humphrey-Ruiter, step daughter to Heather and Holly (Steve) and step granddaughters Kailey and Elia; step son, Carman Ferri (Kathy) and step grandson, Cory. He will be dearly missed by his siblings; Adrian (Tina) Ruiter of Port Colborne, Ted (Catherine) Ruiter of Port Colborne, Ann Zutt of Port Colborne (predeceased by John Zutt), Marie Wester of Coldstream, Ontario (predeceased by Kees Wester), Nellie Dekker of Port Colborne (predeceased by Matt Dekker), Andy (Lillian) Ruiter of Stevensville and Sam (Marie) Ruiter of Westbank, B.C. Cornelis was uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Johan and Marie Ruiter, his brother Bernie Ruiter and his sister Catherine Ruiter. Cornelis immigrated to Canada in 1949 with his family and was a past owner/partner of Port Colborne Block Ltd. from 1959 to 1979. He was an active choir member at St. Elizabeth's Church, Wainfleet and he supported many charities. The family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held at 8:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 1, 2007 at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal to follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Port Colborne. In lieu of flowers please donate to Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton or the charity of your choice.
