MURCHIE, David - Peacefully at the Welland General Hospital on Sunday, September 30, 2007. David now joins his beloved wife of 62 years, Janet, who predeceased him last year. He is sadly missed by his daughter, Doreen McCall (George) of St. Catharines , and his son David (Cassie) of Ottawa. Proud grandfather of Glen McCall and Lindsay Prioriello (John) and great-grandfather of Andrew, Brandon and Anthony. David's roots were in Scotland. Born in Ayrshire, in January 1921, he was a hammersmith at the Scottish Stamp Works in Ayr before serving in the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade in World War II. He brought his family to Canada in 1957 and settled in Welland , a town he grew to love. He was a popular foreman at the Welland Forge and a longstanding member of the Welland Legion, where he was known to his friends as Big Dave. A true Ayrshireman all his life, he delivered “The Immortal Memory of Rabbie Burns” at Burns Suppers throughout the region. He'll be remembered as a strong family man who loved to sing and could always be counted on for a witty remark. His family wants to recognize the kindness of the staff of St. Charles Village who looked after him over the last year and the nursing staff at the Nephrology Ward of the Welland General Hospital for their excellent care. The family will receive friends at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street , Welland on Wednesday October 3rd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm , followed by a funeral service conducted by Pastor Donna Totten.
