OBITUARY JOAN HELEN HANKS October 1925 - September 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Mother, Sister, Grandmother and great-grandmother Joan Helen Hanks. Joan was predeceased by her first husband Orville Charles Winters in 1959 and her second husband Norman Hanks in 1998. Joan is survived by her children Dennis Winters and wife Darylene, and Heather (Hanks) Cote and husband Simon. Joan is also survived by her grandchildren Josh (Shannon), Nathan (Anita) and Paula Winters. Great-grandchildren are Devin, Katie, Danny, Max and Sarah all of Alberta. She is also survived by her Aunt Selenia Emiry of Ontario and her sisters Betty, Dot, and Brother John all of Ontario. Joan is also predeceased by brothers Wallace, Lloyd and Donald. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Joyce and Dorothy (Winnipeg) and brother-in law George (Montreal) and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Joan was born in Espanola, Ontario on October 16, 1925. While living in Montreal with her family, Joan was devoted to her work as a Real Estate agent. They retired in Winnipeg in the early 1990's. Joan was known for her active life at the curling rink where she loved to curl, and in later life supported curling by watching the games. Throughout Joan's life she has played many games of bridge with her many friends and relatives, and for awhile enjoyed her gardening and flowers and her many crossword puzzles. Our Mom, Grandmother and friend will be greatly missed and not forgotten. The memorial service is to be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Chapel Lawn at 3 p.m. Chapel Lawn 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Published in the Montreal Gazette on 9/17/2007
