CHUTE, Michael Earl - 59, Kenora and Vancouver, died unexpectedly October 7, 2007 at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. Born in Kentville, NS, October 14, 1947, he was the beloved son of the late Allison and Verna (Long) Chute. Michael was a well-known and respected geologist throughout Canada with a specialty in economic geology and geochemistry of ore deposits. He was greatly admired by his peers for his tremendous knowledge of this specialized field. Michael was also known for his love of any joke, as well as fieldtrips that involved intense weather conditions (that only he could find). He graduated from Acadia University with a BSc (Geology), the University of Manitoba with an MSc (Geology) and was a PhD candidate. His work took him to Central and South America, and Africa. He spent much time in Canada's North and was most recently Exploration Manager for Western Warrior Resources Inc., Calgary. He was the proud father of Alexander, Hamilton; Patrick, Kenora; Nicholas (Stephanie), Peterborough. Delighted grandfather of Emily and Mark. He is dearly missed by his sisters and brother-in-laws: Marilyn and Don Mosher, Kentville, NS; Kimberley Chute, Seattle; Andrea and Ted Leyton, Kingston. Also surviving is his former wife, Shari Campbell-McKnight, Peterborough. He was predeceased by his brother Foster. A celebration of Michael's innumerable gifts to the world will take place sometime in the future. At that time, according to his wishes, his ashes will be scattered by plane over the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. In memory of Michael, donations may be made to the CNIB or, in honour of his love of the CBC, Friends of Canadian Broadcasting at www.friends.ca.
