ZDEB, John (1928-2007) - John Zdeb, of St. Catharines, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the age of 78, after a courageous struggle with vascular dementia. He is survived by his children Chris of Edmonton, Jane (Cletus) McDonald of Mississauga, Jerry (Tricia) of Orangeville, Lucia of Guelph, and Michelle (Darren ) Keyes of St. Catharines; grandchildren Hailey, Alex, Mac, Mitchell, Spencer, Todd and Breton. Also survived by a brother Stanley in Poland and a stepbrother Walter in Stoney Creek. He was predeceased by Bernice, his wife of 53 years, and his parents, Joseph and Maria. John was born in Nienadowka, Poland. He joined the Polish Army at age 15 and fought in the Second World War. He came to Canada in 1949 and helped his father operate a small fruit farm in Vineland. He also worked for General Motors for 36 years, retiring as a tool setter in 1988. John had a million-watt smile and was known for his sense of humour. He loved dancing, gardening, whistling, card games and bicycling. John was a wonderful dad and a great Dziadek. We will miss his company and his advice, but are glad knowing John and Bernice a re a team again. Special thanks to the staff of Linhaven Lincoln unit for their care and support, especially during Johnny's final days, and to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region. A Funeral service will be held in THE HULSE AND ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346). Please call for date and time of service.
