WICKS - Ethel Florence (nee Bryan) of Port Colborne died on Wednesday October 10, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of the late Douglas Wicks (2005), loving mother of Brian (Sharon) Wicks and Barbara (Edward) Yakobowski all of Port Colborne, dear granny of Sherri Wicks of Welland and Sarah Yakobowski of Guelph, great granny of Myles and Meryn, dear sister of Denis Bryan of Port Colborne, sister-in-law of Mildred Bryan of Port Colborne and Ken Wicks of Fenwick. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by an infant son Gary, her parents Richard and Eleanor Bryan and her brother Edwin Bryan. Born in London England, Ethel has lived in this area for many years. Ethel and Douglas were founding members of St. Brendan the Navigator Anglican Church where she taught Sunday school, served as Vestry Clerk, was a member of the Altar Guild, the Anglican Church Women and sang in the choir for many years. Ethel was a member of the Women's Army Corp and was also a Girl Guide leader for many years. She received from the Bishop the Order of Niagara in May 2007. There will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ethel's life will be held at St. James and St. Brendan's Anglican Church on Saturday October 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Hurkmans officiating. Interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to St. James and St. Brendan's Anglican Church Memorial Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
