Thomas Joseph COGHLAN

COGHLAN, Thomas Joseph July 24, 1921 - October 10, 2007 World War II Veteran Tom died peacefully, in Ottawa, at the age of 86 years. Son of the late Thomas Coghlan and Jessie Coghlan (nee Knight). Leaves behind his wife Denise Coghlan (nee Lacelle). Predeceased by his first wife Mary Eva Murphy and brothers Austin (Margaret), William (Margaret), and Gerald (Patricia). Father to Colleen Murray (Paul), Patricia McKenzie (George), Michael Coghlan (Brenda), Shirley Souchen (Peter). Grandpa Tom/Poppa to Bryan, Sarah, Erin, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Thomas, Anne, Robert, Brendan, Andrea, Peter and great-grandpa to Abigail and Benjamin. Step-father to Peter Murphy (Paula), Daniel Murphy (Carol) and Thomas Murphy (Nicole). Poppa to Matthew, Timothy, Sara, Sean, Andrew, Samantha and Adam. Tom was born in Cochrane, ON and lived in Northern Ontario until he joined the RCAF at the age of 18. He served in the air force until the war ended in 1945. He worked for Defence Construction Limited from 1956 until he retired in 1981. He was seconded to CIDA and was involved in the building of schools in the Caribbean. During his retirement Tom enjoyed curling, golfing, travelling, and long walks. A special thanks to the staff at the Peter D. Clark Center in Ottawa. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday, October 15th at 10 am. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Peter D. Clark Center, the Diabetes Association or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
